Valentine’s Day

Happy Love Day

Feb
14

I was going to post about my adventure in crafting yesterday. See these cute little fleece hearts? Well, they were cute until after this picture was taken and then I started sewing and butchered them all. Turned ‘em into little kidney like things that made MB laugh out loud when I showed him, and not in an isn’t-that-adorable way, think more what-the-hell-are-you-doing way. We’ll talk craft failure another day.

The good thing about Valentine’s Day is that it’s cool to celebrate all kinds of love. Kid love, classmate love, grand-kid love, super mad crazy love, stupid love, chocolate love, shoe love, and plain old Love Love.

I believe you know my four true loves. Here are some other things I love, in honor of Love Day:

i love good conversation
i love making my bed
i love hearing my kids play and laugh (from a distance)
i love baking smells, but i love chocolate the most
i love funny stories
i love a well-placed sarcastic remark
i love taking pictures and i love looking at them
i love it when my opinion of someone changes for the better
i love Pittsburgh
i love to sit on the beach and hear the ocean and feel warm
i love the first snow day before anybody goes out to shovel
i love tulips in the spring
i love that first few seconds after i exercise and i’m DONE

I could go on, but you get the idea. One last thing though: I love it when I make a blog connection – either here or somewhere else. It makes the world the right size. Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you get some lovin.

Love is in the air

Or something like that. We made our class Valentines yesterday. Using my mom superpowers (pinterest and bloggers that create free pdfs) we have assembled some very paper centric treats. I only had to buy one bag of lollipops. My slacker mom is beaming.

Lego Maniac was thrilled when I showed him the pdf over at designmom for fortune tellers. He makes these all the time, so this is 4th grade gold.

Maxine chose the lollipop flowers for her class. I’m not supposed to send sugar. I don’t care. I’m so tired of following the snack rules that everyone else disregards. This V day, we’re breaking hearts…and rules.

What’s Going On

Feb

It’s kinda been a weird week. Weird and busy. Every time I sit down to post, I feel like a big tired blob.

We barely pulled off Valentine’s day. Very sick Dutch, very tired parents, very sugared up siblings, and several M&M incidents. We did get away for the night. I heart uninterrupted sleep. The felt heart clips for Maxine to wear on V Day were super easy. I love easy.

Heart Attack

Feb

Welcome to the obligatory upcoming holiday post.

That’s what’s up this weekend. Not the grab your chest and call the hospital variety . No, we’re talking about the accumulation of the V-Day arsenal. I really have no business posting right now. The floor is only half mopped downstairs and there’s still a bathroom to clean. It’s how I show my love baby. Come to my house and you will never be sullied. You will be clean and you will eat yummy food. Those are the rules. So, let’s talk about love and how we’re showing it this heart-tastic time of year.

1. Love for the Gs. Tonight the ladies will converge at my house to watch The King’s Speech. We spell love like this: C-O-L-I-N F-I-R-T-H. We will survive on popcorn and M&Ms.

2. Love for the Bad Elf. The kidlets are super stoked that they get to spend Valentine’s Day with their Oma. She arrives tomorrow so we’ve got to lovingly de-crap the upstairs. We’ve got a whole week of BEB, which means I’ve got to plan some meals. Like now.

3. Love for our friends. We gotta bust out the Valentines for school this weekend. I’m hoping BEB will enjoy her scheduled project time. We’re going with the heartbreakers from MADE again this year. They’re the perfect mix of homemade, candy, and cute. I somehow think I’m also going to squeeze in time to make some felt heart clips for Maxine to wear.

4. Duty love. It’s our turn to clean the chapel. And we gotta get our lesson on communication ready for our Marriage class on Sunday. Oh yes, and there will be some baking love for some unsuspecting helpers.

5. Lu-uhv Love. With a built-in babysitter, MB and I get to have a for real Valentine’s day. MB is so much better at getting these things planned. I pretty much just get to show up and have fun. We got a hotel (sleepover!) in a great shopping/eating neighborhood. He’s taking the afternoon off and we’ll see the kids on Tuesday. The kids are so happy to be rid of us.

You know you care. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go deal with about 6 lbs of M&Ms now.

Craftastic

Can’t decide if I need an alternate site for my crafty pursuits. Until then, here’s my Valentine.

PS – I’m not digging the photo gallery options for WordPress. Anybody have any tips?

Treaties for your Sweeties ♥♥♥

I’ve been trying to be more thoughtful about holidays, which basically equates to homemade in my mind. So for V-day I got some ideas online (and from my sis-in-law whose blog name just came to me – she’s Hollywood from here on out).  Here are some crafty links for all of you that think buying a box of licensed characters isn’t cutting it anymore.  I’m just going to add the links for now and then I can work on making it look better later.

I got the stuff to make these fabric envelopes after seeing the tutorial on Sew Mama Sew.  Now if I’m actually going to get it done today remains to be seen. I love the felt messages and the mix and match messages. Serious cute factor going on:

Get your love on here.

Also, I’ve got some extra felt so Maxine will be rockin’ a bracelet at some point in the near future:

Hearts ARE Love.

And Hollywood forwarded me this great idea for little candies and little handsies:

Rip, rip, yum, yum.

The munchkins are getting love books this year. I think any excuse is good enough to buy a book. But that’s just me.
