Sometimes I kinda miss no hair.

We all heart Target. Given.
So I thought I would pass along a sweet online deal I just discovered. BOGO 50% off. Good through October 13, 2012. It’s for shoes and handbags, which worked out perfectly, because the reason I had to get online is that my local store didn’t have the kelsie boot in my size.
And then I saw something for MB, that I’m sure he will appreciate.
And then return. (Because his coworkers have zero sense of style and mock anyone that might actually be dressed in something besides Lands End or (gasp) Duluth. Go ahead and take that bait, MB. Someone please show them a Jcrew mag – they all desperately need a metro makeover.)
Bonus : Free shipping when you spend over $50, which I did. I saved $46.99. It’s like I’m making money, people.
And in other Tarjay news – have you seen Ascot Friday and deepinthehart’s new tumblr? Target does it again! Also available on instagram.
I love enablers.

I am having a reaction right now. And Sel, you’re totally going to know why.
What is it with women and their hair? I don’t get it. I really don’t. There’s an almost disney princess obsession with length, regardless of whether you have nice hair or not. It must be long! We want long hair! Right? Um, no. There’s actually a substantial percentage of us that don’t.
Long hair does not make you a woman, and short hair does not make you a lesbian.
It’s 2012 people, and women have jobs and go to space and develop cures for diseases. Surprise! And yet, the suggestion of cutting your hair sends people into a feminine frenzy of bad advice and issue-related motivation. No, don’t cut it! I can almost hear the lilting mews of desperation. It’s as if you suggested cutting off a limb and altering your physical appearance forever. Seriously, let a girl make a decision without heaping centuries of feminine mystique on her. It is hair. It grows. You’re actually only in charge of your own, not everyone else. Last I heard, it really was only Samson that had anything to worry about around scissors.
I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but all I can see is a bunch of crabs in a bucket.

I’ve never actually been to a garden party, but I’ve always wanted to go to one. Think daytime summer wedding. Normally I’d like to pair such a girly dress with beat up black ankle boots, but I’m branching out. Cha-cha-changes…
Since the dress is on sale for $30, you can splurge on the shoes.
As much as I try to channel Kate Lanphear, I like color way too much. I can’t get enough of it lately. And, truth be told, I have almost this exact outfit already. It’s comfy, but pulled together. Still coveting the bag though. STRIPES! So obsessed with them for reasons unbeknownst to me.
And yes, I totally own the swedish hasbeens. Even better than I imagined. They sparkle in the light and I find $50 bills in the toes every morning. They make me 10 lbs lighter and define and tone my upper arms. True love.
peep toe clogs :: polka dot bangles :: straight khakis :: mercer striped tee :: oh snap bag
Because GNO dressing is different than date night dressing. It just is what it is. I’m really digging black and blue together these days.
black ♥ sweater :: overdyed denim :: cuff :: mini shopper :: suede wedges :: bangles

If I were your personal style consultant, I’d make sure you had a bag you love. A bag that works with most anything – an everyday bag. And it wouldn’t be from Target. (I typed it without being struck by lightening!) I am currently in love with my Zara shopper that I bought for myself for my birthday. And I’m kind of not the only one. Check it.
I get a lot of comments on the bag. Most people are into it. A small percentage of people are terrified by its size. MB calls it “the bucket” and it’s true that you could put a small child in it. But guess what? They now make a mini! And it comes in bright summer colors. So, now you have no excuse. Get thee online!

i only wish I got paid for this.

I’m setting the timer for this post for a fun twist to my day. Which means that this will probably just be a string of random thoughts and nothing insightful. Or useful.
In style news, I can’t get into neon. Maybe accessories, but the clothes are killing me. Speaking of accessories, I’m seriously loving my colorblock flats from tobi. They even have a removable ankle strap. I may be slightly addicted to my leopard print jeans as well. 4 Xs in one week. ssssssshhhhh! Don’t tell.
In kid news, LegoManiac won the bronze for the Science Olympiad at school. Still fighting to get him in the gifted program (this deserves it’s own long nightmare post). After reading a NYT article about kids accidentally stumbling on porn, I decided to chat with him about it the other night. He declared me “awkward” and said he prefers to talk to MB. Unfortunately for him, that did not stop me from making my point.
Maxine is now going to see a behavioral health therapist. We’ve gone once and it went well. She behaves perfectly in public, so I felt like I was making everything up. She paid me back that evening by launching into her entire repertoire of behavioral issues. Then last night, during another epic tantrum, she begged me to take her to the “fit doctor.” I tried not to laugh, and told her we should probably just call her a therapist. I’m taking that as a sign that she wants help.
Dutch cannot wait to go to preschool. It’s all she talks about. She is currently obsessed with snot and its spectrum of colors.
In life news, I seem to be taking on lots of projects. Not sure why, but busy me makes a better me. I seem to be on the RS radar – been dodging messages as I think someone ratted me out…was it you??? I also discovered today that MB has stashed Milky Ways for me around the house. Enablers, ftw!

I rock the mic like a vandal. But I’m also rockin a new ‘do that Magic Hands proclaimed blog worthy. We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy. I need to take pictures with a real camera, but these will work for now.
I went in with visions of pale lavender hair, but came out with some major contrast. Magic Hands had me at “you’ve NEVER done black before.” And we were both afraid another round of bleach would make my hair fall out of my head. Not that I have much left. I like it when i exercise and put it a little samurai top knot. My kids enjoy pointing and laughing at the sight as well.
Can you see my birth mark on the left? I always forget I have that. What about my eye make up, can you see that? Cause I know sometimes it’s so faint and natural…

I’ve been working on building my own wardrobe computer, a la Cher in Clueless. Meet Cloth, and unlock your closet. (I have to give credit to MB’s cousin for this app. I think he knows the developer.) It’s taking some time to fill up my feed, since I’ve decided to save the water supply of the earth by wearing the same outfit for 4 days at a time (flannel, cough, cough). But I’m slowly adding outfits. Oh, the grueling schedule I keep.
You snap your pic and you can then assign categories, tags, where you wore it, any notes, and/or mark it as a favorite. It’s divided up into types of outfits: event, everyday, work, vacation, and favorites. (I’m heavy on the everyday.) There’s a social networking aspect – you can log in to FB or tweet your outfits (which could be fun with some friends), or you can send it to the Cloth blog. I’m not interested in the game portion of it where you get points for and earn status, but that exists as well if you’re into that. I do like using it to catalog the go-to outfits we talked about before. I should add that you can click the image to see the full picture in the app, I am not one to leave shoes out of an outfit photo.
It’s good as a reference (and as a reminder of what you wore to specific places) but I find that taking a picture of yourself is kind of awkward and hard. My lighting is always bad, holding the camera obscures some part of what you’re wearing, and my concentration face is alarming. That’s the nature of the beast though. Overall, I think it’s worth it for a junkie like me.
I hope you all have fun plans this weekend. And because I am so generous, I’d like to gift this app to one of you. Just tell me what you’ve been wanting to add to your wardrobe lately. Links please, if available.
