Three cheers for hypocrisy!

Why blog now? I truly don’t know. After being on my soapbox for many years now about why I don’t like blogs and their many evils, here I am blogging. Let’s look at my list of vehement objections:

  1. Blogs are a fake way of keeping in touch. It’s another way to remove yourself from genuine communication.
  2. Blogs are self-serving.  We’ve found another way in the culture of ME to focus on our own little bubble.
  3. Blogs create an unfortunate and unrealistic comparison of lives, accomplishments, lifestyles, opportunities, you name it.
  4. Successful blogs require uncensored honesty and exploitation of personal relationships.
  5. 2 words: Time Suck

Oh, I’ve found a way to justify it. It’s a good way to keep in touch with family strewn across the country (which is the only good thing I’ve ever had to say about having a blog).  I do enjoy writing, I always have. Writing is therapeutic and one of the few ways I feel I can actually create. But as I type this, all I really hear is my mom’s voice, “You need to start a blog.”  Moms always win. This blog’s for you mom.

I have to agree with you about all your reasons for not starting a blog. I would like to do more of #4 and have made maybe 2 or 3 attempts at it on my blog, but I just can’t bring myself to be truly honest the way I would really want to be (like maybe dooce.com). In the end, that’s why I started one, keeps family in touch with each other. I hate to say it, but welcome to the club. Now you probably want to smack me, right? Hee, hee . . .

Oh, and I just have to add, for selfish reasons of getting to see your family and see what you guys are up to . . . and because I love your writing and I think you’re cool . . . I really am happy you started this blog.
